description 25 Phocaea Overview

25 Phocaea is an S-type asteroid in the inner main asteroid belt. Jean Chacornac discovered it in 1853, and it was named after Phocaea, an ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia. The asteroid is also the namesake of the Phocaea family, a group of inner-belt asteroids with related orbital characteristics and broadly similar stony compositions.
