Abell 63

description Abell 63 Overview

Abell 63 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Sagitta. Its central system includes the eclipsing binary star UU Sagittae, whose connection with the nebula was identified in the twentieth century. An eclipsing binary changes in observed brightness when one star passes in front of the other from Earth's viewpoint. Abell 63 is therefore studied both as an expanding ionized nebular shell and as a binary-star system at its center.
