Acaste

description Acaste Overview

Acaste is a genus of phacopid trilobites that lived from the Silurian into the Devonian Period. Fossils are known from European marine deposits. The genus is recognized by its large schizochroal eyes, whose visual surfaces contain numerous individually lensed facets, and by the characteristic proportions of its cephalon and thorax. Acaste is useful for identifying Silurian and Devonian phacopid assemblages and for comparing trilobite eye structure.
