description Albert IV Overview
Albert IV was a rhesus macaque used in the United States’ late-1940s V-2 rocket experiments involving animals. He flew on the last monkey V-2 mission in 1949 and reached space on a suborbital flight, but died when the capsule struck the ground after a parachute malfunction. Albert IV is distinct from Albert II, whose earlier V-2 flight is generally identified as the first successful primate trip into space.
