description Ametrine Overview
Ametrine is a naturally occurring variety of quartz that shows distinct zones of purple amethyst and yellow or orange citrine within the same crystal. The color division results from differences in oxidation conditions affecting iron in the quartz during crystal formation. Commercial ametrine is strongly associated with Bolivia, especially material from the Anahí mine, and is cut for jewelry and mineral collections because of its contrasting two-color appearance.
