Bellman

description Bellman Overview

Bellman is a three-act comic opera, often classified as an operetta, by the Austrian composer Franz von Suppé. Its libretto was written by Moritz West and Ludwig Held, and the work draws on the name and persona of the Swedish poet and songwriter Carl Michael Bellman. The opera premiered at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna in February 1887. It belongs to the late nineteenth-century Viennese stage tradition and is distinct from other works titled Bellman because its central subject is the Swedish literary figure.
