Beswick was a Staffordshire pottery founded in Longton in 1894 by James Wright Beswick and his sons. The company became known for modelled ceramic animals, including farm, domestic, and wild species, and in 1948 it began making licensed figurines based on Beatrix Potter's characters, starting with a model of Jemima Puddle-Duck by Arthur Gredington. The Beatrix Potter range and other animal figures are now commonly encountered as collectibles.
