Bjossa

description Bjossa Overview

Bjossa was a female orca captured near Iceland in 1980 and later kept at the Vancouver Aquarium. She became the institution’s last captive orca and remained there for more than two decades before being transferred to SeaWorld San Diego. Bjossa died in 2001, shortly after the transfer. Her history is discussed in debates about keeping large, intelligent marine mammals in captivity and the changing role of aquariums.
