Is it safe to swim at Bottom Bay in Barbados?

Barbados tourism guidance does not recommend bathing there because Atlantic waves and currents can be strong. Bottom Bay is better suited to photography, picnics, and enjoying the sand than to casual family swimming.

Where is Bottom Bay located?

Bottom Bay lies in the parish of Saint Philip on the southeastern Atlantic side of Barbados. It is roughly 10 kilometres from Grantley Adams International Airport and about 20 kilometres from Bridgetown.

What makes Bottom Bay look different from Barbados's west-coast beaches?

High coral cliffs partly enclose the bay, with coconut palms rising above pale sand and exposed Atlantic water. The west coast is generally calmer, while Bottom Bay receives stronger ocean swell.

Does Bottom Bay have lifeguards, restaurants, or beach facilities?

Facilities are very limited, and visitors should not expect the services found at larger resort beaches. Bring water and sun protection, and do not rely on a lifeguard being present.
