Candlestick Tower

Candlestick Tower is located in the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park in southeastern Utah. It rises above the canyons and benches near the White Rim area and can be seen from park overlooks and certain backcountry routes.

Candlestick Tower has been climbed, but technical rock climbing on it requires appropriate skills, gear, and permits as required by the National Park Service. Most visitors observe it from overlooks rather than attempting to climb it, as it is a slender and remote sandstone formation.

Candlestick Tower can be viewed from several vantage points in the Island in the Sky district, including from the White Rim Road and certain overlooks along the mesa-top drive. Its tall, tapered silhouette makes it recognizable from viewpoints across the surrounding canyon landscape.

Candlestick Tower is in the same general Island in the Sky region of Canyonlands National Park as other notable sandstone formations, including those along the White Rim. These towers are part of the same geological landscape of carved sandstone buttes and mesas characteristic of the Colorado Plateau.
