description Cheops Overview

Cheops (Characterising Exoplanet Satellite) is a European Space Agency space telescope launched in December 2019, developed under Swiss leadership. Unlike surveys designed to find new planets, Cheops is specifically built to observe bright stars already known to host exoplanets, measuring their precise sizes using high-precision photometry. By combining these size measurements with existing mass data, astronomers can determine the bulk density of these planets. The mission serves the astrophysics community by characterizing the nature of exoplanets ranging from Earth-like to Neptune-sized.
