Common Mallow

description Common Mallow Overview

Common mallow (Malva sylvestris) is a flowering plant in the mallow family, Malvaceae, native to Eurasia and introduced or naturalized in many other regions. It has rounded, shallowly lobed leaves and pink to purple flowers marked by darker veins. The plant produces small disc-like schizocarps, sometimes called cheese wheels, and its young leaves have historically been used as a cooked or raw vegetable. It occurs in roadsides, fields, gardens, and other disturbed sites.
