The Coppermine River is a river in Canada's Northwest Territories and Nunavut that flows northward into Coronation Gulf, an arm of the Arctic Ocean. It is roughly 845 kilometers long and drains a remote tundra region. The river was named for native copper found along parts of its course. English explorer Samuel Hearne traveled the Coppermine River during his 1771 expedition, making it an important feature in the history of European exploration of the Canadian Arctic.
