Cuicuilco

description Cuicuilco Overview

Cuicuilco is a pre-Columbian archaeological site in the southern part of the Basin of Mexico, within the modern Mexico City area. It is known for a large circular stepped pyramid, an unusual form among major early Mesoamerican ceremonial structures. The settlement flourished during the Formative or Preclassic period and was later affected by volcanic activity from the Xitle eruption, which covered parts of the site with lava and ash.
