Daniel Silvan Evans was a Welsh clergyman, scholar, translator, and lexicographer who worked extensively on the Welsh language. His concise English-Welsh dictionary appeared in 1858, and he began publishing the larger Geiriadur Cymraeg in 1887. Evans continued working on that dictionary until his death in 1903, when the manuscript had reached the letter E. His publications are associated with the development of bilingual Welsh reference works.
