Devín Castle is a ruined fortification on a rocky promontory at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers in southwestern Slovakia, near Bratislava. Archaeological evidence indicates the site has been inhabited since the Neolithic period, approximately 5000 BCE, and it later served as an important stronghold during the Great Moravian Empire in the 9th century. The castle was destroyed in 1809 by Napoleon's forces during the Napoleonic Wars. Today the ruins are a national cultural monument open to the public.
