description Dianthus Overview

Dianthus is a genus of flowering plants in the family Caryophyllaceae, native mainly to Europe and Asia, with additional species in North Africa and other regions. It includes carnations, pinks, and sweet William, which may be annual, biennial, or perennial and usually have narrow leaves and five-petaled flowers with toothed or fringed margins. Many cultivated forms are grown in gardens and for cut flowers, and some have a spicy fragrance.
