Firstborn

description Firstborn Overview

Firstborn is the first published poetry collection by American poet Louise Glück. It appeared in 1968 and introduced a style characterized by compressed language, formal control, and psychologically direct treatment of family life, sexuality, suffering, and death. The collection preceded Glück's later books, which developed the voice associated with her wider literary reputation and her 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature.
