description GE E60C Overview
The GE E60C was a class of electric locomotives built by General Electric for high-speed passenger service in the northeastern United States. Amtrak used the locomotives on the Northeast Corridor after their introduction in the 1970s, but their high axle weight and the limitations of existing track reduced their suitability for sustained high-speed operation. Some examples later entered freight service with Conrail.
