description Grain Weevil Overview
The grain weevil, Sitophilus granarius, is a flightless snout beetle that infests stored wheat, barley, oats, rye, rice, and other cereal grains. Adult beetles are dark brown to nearly black, with a long curved snout, and the larvae develop inside individual kernels after the female drills an opening and lays an egg. Because adults cannot fly, the species spreads mainly through infested grain, containers, and other forms of human transport.
