description Handkerchief Pool Overview

Handkerchief Pool is a former hot spring in Yellowstone National Park's Black Sand Basin. Visitors once dropped handkerchiefs into the water and watched them disappear into the spring's plumbing before re-emerging cleaner, which made the feature a tourist attraction. Coins, broken bottles, rocks, hairpins and a horseshoe were also thrown into the pool; a log and accumulated debris damaged its plumbing, and the spring eventually became dormant.
