description Immerather Maar Overview
Immerather Maar is a dry maar in the Eifel region of Germany. A maar is a volcanic depression formed by an explosive interaction between rising magma and groundwater, and many examples contain a lake. Immerather Maar does not have a permanent crater lake because its sediments are sufficiently permeable for water to drain away. The circular depression is instead a visible geological feature whose floor and surrounding land have been used for agriculture.
