Janefield Mill

description Janefield Mill Overview

Janefield Mill was an early water-powered flour mill on the Plenty River at Bundoora, Victoria. George Coulstock built it in the early 1840s to process local grain; the three-storey bluestone mill had a 16-foot breast wheel and later processed about eight bushels of wheat per hour. Reduced river flows after construction of the Yan Yean Reservoir ended its operation between 1858 and 1862, after which the building was demolished and its machinery moved to a steam mill in Preston.
