description Koshi River Overview
The Koshi, or Kosi, is a transboundary river of the Himalaya and the Ganges basin. It is formed by several Himalayan tributaries, crosses Nepal, enters the Indian state of Bihar, and joins the Ganges near Kursela. Its broad alluvial fan and unstable channels have repeatedly shifted across the northern plains, while monsoon floods have caused major damage and displacement, giving it the informal name Sorrow of Bihar.
