description Long Meg Overview
Long Meg and Her Daughters is a prehistoric stone circle near Little Salkeld in Cumbria, England, generally dated to the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age. The outlying Long Meg is a red sandstone pillar about 3.6 metres high; its inward-facing surface carries spirals, concentric rings, grooves, and other prehistoric carvings. Around 60 smaller stones form the circle, making the site relevant to the study of British megalithic monuments.
