Michael is a 2011 Austrian drama film written and directed by Markus Schleinzer in his feature directorial debut. It follows five months in the life of Michael, a man in his thirties who keeps a ten-year-old boy named Wolfgang imprisoned in his home, while presenting the surrounding domestic routine in an observational and emotionally restrained manner. The film was presented in competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival and focuses on the ordinary surface of a criminal situation involving child captivity.
