Migneint

The Migneint is an extensive upland area of blanket bog and moorland in north Wales, located primarily within the county of Gwynedd, north of the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Parts of the landscape fall within Snowdonia (Eryri) National Park. It is one of the largest blanket bog areas in Wales.

Parts of the Migneint are designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and fall within a Special Area of Conservation recognizing the internationally important blanket bog habitat. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) actively manages portions of the area for conservation. The peatlands also serve as a significant carbon store.

The Migneint is crossed by public footpaths and includes areas of open access land, but walking across the blanket bog is challenging due to wet, uneven terrain and limited waymarking. The A470 road runs along the western edge of the area. Hillwalkers should carry Ordnance Survey maps and be prepared for rapidly changing upland weather conditions.

The Migneint's blanket bog and wet heath support upland bird species including hen harriers, red grouse, curlew, and skylark. The pools and wetlands provide habitat for amphibians and a range of invertebrates. The area's peatlands are ecologically significant both for biodiversity and for carbon storage.
