Modacrylic

description Modacrylic Overview

Modacrylic is a manufactured textile fiber formed from a long-chain synthetic polymer containing at least 35% but less than 85% acrylonitrile units. Comonomers such as vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride give many modacrylic fibers flame-retardant behavior, so they are used in protective fabrics, faux fur, wigs, hairpieces, and theatrical costume materials. Its properties vary by formulation.
