Palouse

description Palouse Overview

The Palouse is a landscape and agricultural region of rolling loess hills in eastern Washington and adjacent northern Idaho. Wind-deposited silt created deep, fertile soils that support extensive dryland farming, especially wheat, even though the region receives limited summer rainfall. Its smooth hill forms, exposed soils, and large-scale grain fields distinguish it from the more rugged mountains and river canyons nearby.
