Pertex Quantum

Pertex Quantum is commonly used as the face fabric or inner lining of down and synthetic insulated jackets, sleeping bags, and quilts. Its low weight, soft hand-feel, and ability to control insulation migration make it a popular choice for ultralight outdoor gear.

Pertex Quantum fabrics are among the lightest woven nylon materials available for outdoor apparel, typically weighing around 10 to 15 grams per square meter depending on the denier and finish. This extreme lightness is one reason it is favored by manufacturers focused on minimizing packed weight.

Pertex Quantum offers a degree of wind resistance due to its tight weave, and many versions are treated with a durable water repellent (DWR) finish for light rain protection. However, it is not fully waterproof or seam-sealed, and is best understood as a lightweight, breathable, weather-resistant shell fabric rather than a hard-shell barrier.

Pertex Quantum Air uses a more open weave construction than standard Pertex Quantum, making it more breathable but slightly less wind resistant. This tradeoff makes Quantum Air better suited for high-output activities like trail running, while standard Quantum remains the preferred choice for static insulation in jackets and sleeping bags.
