Pine Engraver

description Pine Engraver Overview

Pine engraver is the common name for Ips pini, a small bark beetle in the subfamily Scolytinae of the weevil family Curculionidae. It occurs across North America and breeds in the inner bark of pine and other stressed, recently cut, or dying conifers. Adults and larvae construct galleries beneath the bark, and concentrated attacks can kill portions of a tree, especially the crown. The species is relevant to forestry and tree-health monitoring.
