Raúl Sendic was a Uruguayan lawyer and political activist who helped found the Tupamaros, formally known as the National Liberation Movement. The movement became an urban guerrilla organization active in Uruguay during the 1960s and early 1970s, using armed actions and political agitation against the government. Sendic is associated with the Tupamaros' rural organizing efforts and with the broader revolutionary left in twentieth-century Uruguay.
