description Raumschach Overview
Raumschach is a three-dimensional chess variant created by Ferdinand Maack in 1907. The game is played on a cubic board consisting of five levels, each five squares by five squares, for a total of 125 positions. Pieces move through the cube rather than across a flat board, and the rules extend familiar chess ideas to vertical as well as horizontal movement. It is intended for players interested in spatial strategy and experimental chess design.
