Roughhead Grenadier

description Roughhead Grenadier Overview

Roughhead grenadier (Macrourus berglax) is a deep-sea rattail in the family Macrouridae. It occurs in the North Atlantic and adjacent Arctic waters, where it lives near the seabed from roughly 200 to 2,600 metres and feeds as a bottom-dwelling fish. Its enlarged head, tapering body, and rough-scaled appearance distinguish it from many other grenadiers; it is also taken in commercial trawl fisheries and is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
