Rustic Borer

description Rustic Borer Overview

The rustic borer, Xylotrechus colonus, is a North American longhorn beetle in the family Cerambycidae, subfamily Cerambycinae, and tribe Clytini. Adults are about 8 to 15 millimeters long and have black elytra with broad pale bands, including a narrow sinuate band near the base that helps identify the species. Its larvae develop in the bark of recently killed or dying hardwoods, especially in eastern North America, so the beetle is associated with forest trees and firewood.
