description Schorl Overview

Schorl is a mineral species in the tourmaline group and is usually opaque black. It is an iron-bearing borosilicate mineral found in granitic rocks, especially granite pegmatites, and also occurs in some metamorphic settings. Mineral collectors value well-formed crystals, while the material is also cut or polished for opaque black beads, cabochons, and other jewelry components.
