Seychelles Frog

The Seychelles Frog is an amphibian endemic to the granitic Seychelles islands in the Indian Ocean. It inhabits the damp leaf litter and moist forests of these isolated islands.

The Seychelles Frog is a member of the ancient family Sooglossidae. This family represents a relict lineage that diverged after the Seychelles separated from India roughly 75 million years ago, making them scientifically significant.

Unlike many frogs, Seychelles Frogs do not have a free-swimming tadpole stage. Instead, they undergo direct development, with the young hatching as miniature adults on land.

These frogs are incredibly small, with some species in the Sooglossidae family growing to be less than 15 millimeters in length. Their diminutive size allows them to thrive in the microhabitats of the forest floor.
