description Sheep Laurel Overview

Sheep laurel (Kalmia angustifolia) is a low evergreen shrub in the heath family, native to acidic soils in eastern North America. It grows in bogs, barrens, open coniferous woods, and other nutrient-poor habitats, with narrow leathery leaves and clusters of pink to deep pink flowers in late spring and summer. The plant contains grayanotoxins and is poisonous when eaten by livestock or people.
