Yorito Morimiya is obsessed with the sky. He especially loves taking pictures of its array of different faces—sunrises, sunsets, clouds. On one of his early-morning excursions to photograph the sunrise, Yorito meets a strange girl engaged in an argument with a vending machine. By the time that Yorito forces the girl's tomato juice out of the machine, she's vanished without a trace.

Sola follows the story of Yorito, his sister Aono, and their childhood friends Mana and Koyori Ishizuki, as well as that of a mysterious girl who appears and disappears, and who seems to harbor a dark secret.

When did the anime sola come out and who made it?

sola aired in 2007 as a 13-episode series produced by studio Nomad. It arrived during a strong stretch of original melancholic supernatural dramas in the mid-2000s.

What is a 'yaka' in sola?

Yaka are long-lived supernatural beings in the show's mythology, and sunlight is harmful to them. Matsuri, the strange girl Yorito meets arguing with a vending machine at sunrise, is one, and her nature drives the central conflict.

Is sola based on a manga or is it an original anime?

It began as an original multimedia anime project, with a manga adaptation following alongside it in a Dengeki magazine. So unlike many mid-2000s shows, the anime isn't condensing a longer-running source.

Are there any extra sola episodes or specials after the main series?
