description Stokes' Aster Overview

Stokes' aster, Stokesia laevis, is a herbaceous perennial native to the southeastern United States, where it occurs in open, often moist habitats such as pine savannas and meadows. It forms a clump of narrow leaves and produces solitary flower heads with prominent fringed rays, usually in shades of blue, purple, pink, or white. The plant is grown in perennial borders and naturalistic gardens, especially where summers are warm and drainage is adequate.
