description Sunk Sand Overview
Sunk Sand is a sandbank in the outer Thames Estuary off the east coast of England. It forms part of the shallow bank system around the Thames approaches, where sandbanks such as Sunk Sand and Long Sand have historically affected navigation. The Sunk Light Vessel, later replaced by a lighted buoy, marked the area and helped guide vessels through the approaches to the Thames and Medway.
