description Symphysops Overview

Symphysops is an extinct genus of trilobites in the family Cyclopygidae. It lived from the Middle to Upper Ordovician and has been reported from localities in Europe, North America, Asia, and North Africa, indicating a broad distribution. The genus is named for its fused eyes, which meet across the front of the cephalon to form a visor-like structure, a feature combined with a frontal spine and lower eyelid.
