The Gloup

description The Gloup Overview

The Gloup is a coastal blowhole and collapsed sea-cave formation on Fetlar in the Shetland Islands of Scotland. Waves enter the opening and force air and water through the broken cave system, producing loud bursts and spray when the sea is rough. The name is connected with an Old Norse word for a chasm or opening. It is both a geological feature and a local example of how marine erosion reshapes Shetland's exposed coastline.
