Topaz Mill

The current mill building dates to 1895, while an earlier mill at the site is believed to have existed around 1840. Equipment from the Great Western Manufacturing Company was installed around 1903. The site uses a spring reported to produce about 10 million gallons of water per day. The water was raised roughly 12 feet, sent down a raceway, and directed to a turbine that powered the milling equipment. The restored mill and neighboring general store are the main surviving buildings from the former Douglas County community. Milling of flour and meal continued until the late 1930s, after which the site became a preserved historical remnant.
