Trix

description Trix Overview

Trix is a trick taking card game played in Lebanon and other parts of the Middle East, commonly by four players using a standard deck. Play is organized into kingdoms, with a player selecting contracts that impose different scoring objectives, such as avoiding particular cards or tricks, or completing a sequence building game. Success therefore depends on adjusting strategy between contracts, tracking exposed cards, and managing both negative point penalties and opportunities to score.

help Trix FAQ

What are the five contracts in a Trix kingdom?

A standard kingdom includes King of Hearts, Queens, Diamonds, Collections, and the positive trick-taking contract called Trix. The first four penalize particular cards or tricks, while Trix changes play into a card-shedding race.

How does a player become the king in Trix?

In the common four-player format, each player becomes the king for one kingdom and chooses the order of its contracts. This gives every player a turn controlling the sequence of scoring challenges.

Why is the Trix contract different from the other contracts?

Trix is not played as a conventional trick-taking hand. Players instead build suit sequences on the table, usually outward from the jacks, and score according to how quickly they empty their hands.

Is Lebanese Trix related to Barbu?

Trix and the European game Barbu both combine several contracts in which players avoid particular cards, queens, or tricks. Trix has its own distinctive kingdom structure and includes the sequence-building Trix contract.
