description TRL Overview
Total Request Live, usually abbreviated TRL, was an MTV music countdown and interview program launched in 1998. Broadcast from MTV's Times Square studio in New York, its original run combined viewer-requested music-video rankings with live appearances by musicians, actors, and other celebrities. The weekday program became an important promotional venue for late-1990s and early-2000s pop, hip-hop, and rock before ending its original run in 2008.
