Ubongo

Ubongo is a fast-paced polyomino puzzle game where players race in real-time to fit Tetris-like pieces onto their individual grid. Every round, players roll a die to determine which pieces they must use to fill the outlined shape. The first player to solve their puzzle gets to move their pawn on the scoring track.

The English version of the board game Ubongo was published by Z-Man Games. The game was originally designed by Polish-born Swedish creator Grzegorz Rejchtman and first published in Sweden in 2003 under the name Pyramidens Portar. It later found massive international success through publishers like Kosmos and Z-Man.

Yes, Ubongo officially supports 2 to 4 players, making it a great competitive head-to-head game for couples. When playing with two people, the puzzle-solving race becomes highly intense since there is less competition for the gems. You still use the exact same boards and components as you would in a larger game.

While the base game of Ubongo features standard geometric polyomino pieces, Ubongo Extreme introduces hexagonal shapes instead of squares. This hex-based variation significantly increases the mathematical difficulty of the puzzles. Both versions still utilize the exact same real-time, racing mechanic designed by Grzegorz Rejchtman.
