Vapourer moth

description Vapourer moth Overview

The vapourer moth, Orgyia antiqua, is a widespread moth of Europe and parts of Asia and North America. It has marked sexual dimorphism: males are winged and active flyers, while females are largely wingless and remain near the site where they emerge. Females attract males with pheromones, then lay eggs near the pupal case. The larvae are hairy and feed on a range of deciduous trees and shrubs.
