description Veneto Plain Overview
The Veneto Plain is the lowland portion of northeastern Italy, extending across much of the Veneto region toward the Adriatic and continuing eastward into the adjoining Friulian plain. It was built from sediments deposited by rivers descending from the Alps and Prealps, including the Adige, Brenta, Piave, and Tagliamento. The plain has a drier, permeable upper zone and a wetter lower zone with abundant springs and canals; its soils support productive agriculture and a dense network of towns and historic cities.
