description Wild Ginger Overview
Asarum canadense, commonly called wild ginger, is a perennial woodland plant native to eastern and central North America. It spreads through underground rhizomes and forms colonies of large, heart-shaped leaves in moist, shaded forest soil. Its small maroon or brown flowers develop close to the ground beneath the foliage rather than above it, and the seeds are commonly dispersed by ants, which carry them to new locations.
